About this course
Asbestos is one of the most hazardous materials still present in Swedish buildings. This course provides the essential competence required for anyone who may be exposed to asbestos-containing dust even if they do not work directly with asbestos. The course follows AFS 2023:13, Chapter 3, with additions according to AFS 2025:6 and is designed for workers in construction, HVAC, electrical work, ventilation, painting, property maintenance, installations and general building maintenance. The training is delivered entirely in English, except for a few videos (which can be viewed with English subtitles). Templates, PDFs and downloadable documents are provided in Swedish.

Course content according to AFS 2025:6 §14
This course meets the requirements in AFS 2025:6 §14 and includes: 1. Work environment law and responsibilities – legal requirements and when medical examinations apply 2. Asbestos properties and health risks – why fibres are dangerous and typical locations 3. Materials that may contain asbestos – common building products with asbestos risk 4. Work situations involving exposure – how suspicion arises in practice 5. Preventive work methods – permitted methods and how to avoid fibre release 6. Personal protective equipment – half mask with P3 filter and basic hygiene 7. Emergency measures – stop-work rule and spill management 8. Reporting – when and how incidents must be reported The course also covers key principles in AFS 2025:6 Chapter 3: • Pre-work asbestos inventory (§15) • Written handling and protection instructions (§17) • Stop-work rule for unexpected asbestos (§18a) Note: Only basic/general-level training is included. Detailed demolition methods and advanced decontamination procedures are not part of the general course.
Course structure
1. Theoretical part (online) Eight modules with videos, scenarios, practice questions and final exam. After passing the exam, you have completed the theory according to AFS 2023:13 Chapter 3. 2. Practical part (on the job) After completing the theory, the practical component is carried out together with your employer/site supervisor. Instructor
Jonatan Liestad has been active in the construction and decontamination industry for over 15 years. He runs a demolition company in Stockholm, is a trained asbestos remover (2018), Hot Work instructor, and certified in several work environment and safety fields. The teaching is based on real examples with a focus on safety, responsibility and practical application.

Take the course – work safely and legally
This training provides the required competence for working safely in environments where asbestos may be present. From 19 December 2025, this training becomes mandatory by law for all occupational groups who may be exposed.
